Cheap Ski Helmets

by Tyler on November 15, 2010

People who are into winter sports should only invest in high quality ski or snowboard helmets. Cheap ski helmets need not be cheaply made items. You just need to shop around for good prices. We have found some top brands for you.

Tips For Choosing Cheap Ski Helmets

While cheap ski helmets may be a practical substitute for expensive, quality brands, the trade offs in safety far outweigh the savings in cost. If you’re bent on saving dollars by getting a more affordable helmet, you might as well spend some time and effort looking for a quality helmet that is on sale. A little bit of window shopping for cheap ski helmets doesn’t hurt, most especially if the end result is a bargain deal on a quality helmet that’s certified according to industry safety standards.

So how are you going to spot cheap ski helmets with good design and quality? The first thing you have to do before going out to shop is to conduct some research. There are a number of brands out there. The key is to identify which ones are truly dependable under rigorous winter sports activities, and not be fooled by brands that simply pretend to have good quality. Price is usually a good indicator of which helmets are of high quality, but not always. With enough persistence, you’ll find branded, albeit cheap, ski helmets that boast good design and material construction.

Once you find a brand or store that you like, choose among the different types available—full shell, short shell and full face models. For maximum safety, full face models are highly recommended. They not only provide more protection against impact, but are also less prone to accidental removal in case of incorrect fitting or failure to secure the neck strap. Always take careful note of sizing. Like ski boots, all heads are different and your helmet needs to be a good snug fit without any discomfort.

When you find a helmet that fits really well and provides adequate comfort, only then start to consider the aesthetics and additional features. There are top brands that have cheap ski helmets on sale that even feature such advances in ski helmet technology such as built-in ear-pad speakers. These can be hooked up to a portable mp3 player so you can listen to your favorite tracks while skiing. Beware though that listening to loud music is not recommended for rigorous skiing activities as you need all of your senses when you ski. If your music is so loud as to drown out all other noise you may not hear a potentially dangerous situation such as an out of control skier close by. As with any sport, accidents can happen if you lose concentration, so choose properly and ski safely!
